News and Announcements
  • We have added a 2002 EIO-LCA model for Canada [March 1, 2008].
  • Check out the new map and graph features on the "displayed results" page. There is also a direct map link to see where facilities in a particular industry are located [September 5 2007].
  • Many have asked about updating EIO-LCA from the "1997 US Economy" to 2002. Aside from the data not being available yet from the US government, we have no funding to do so. Please contact us if you have suggestions for funding sources.
  • Our book on the theory and method of EIO-LCA was released in early April 2006, published by Resources for the Future (RFF) Press (including a low-cost paperback edition). You can order it from RFF or buy the hardback or paperback edition from Amazon.com.
  • Please note that we have installed "forum" software to better manage communication flows between the model development team and users - you can access it from the forum link above. If you do not get notice of activation within a day or so, let us know (we get lots of spam account requests) [Sept-12-2005].

Introduction
Using the EIO-LCA model will get you well on your way to understanding the environmental impacts of producing goods or services. In fact, by starting the easy steps below, you can walk through a tutorial on how to use the website. If you're already well versed in using it, you can just click the Use the Model link above to skip the tutorial and get back to work.

The tutorial gives instructions and examples on how to use the EIO-LCA.net tool. You will provide inputs, manipulate the display of the results, and interpret the results. The instructions use an example of increasing economic activity in the "Automobile and light truck manufacturing" sector by $1 million. For information on the methodology behind the eiolca.net tool, the math, and interpreting the data, see the background information.
