1. Can one calculate the emissions caused directly by the industry of interest? Can you look at how much of the impact is from power generated, transportation, etc, and tried to get a 'feel' for it, or is there a more robust way to approach this? You posted on the forum (http://www.eiolca.net/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=138) and said:

In fact, however, when I calculate it this way, the numbers are ~ 2500 (ie not much larger). Did I misunderstood your answer?

2. If we wanted to estimate emissions per dollar of final output for a particular industry, should we simply divide the emissions by the "total economic" column? Or should we use a ratio of this with the total of all sectors as a multiplier? In the car example in your book, we know how much it costs to produce a Taurus, and how much it costs to buy a Taurus...but what if we just know the 'buying' cost and want to estimate emissions/dollar for that?

1) Unless I am misunderstanding your question, you simply want to know the "Sectoral" effects. This is a subset of the direct effects, which are found by considering the sectoral + first level of the supply chain effects.

You can do this by displaying both the economic results as well as your other effects of choice (eg GHG emissions). If you had a sector where the Economic Results of $1 million of widget production looked like this:

Sector Direct Total (millions)
Widgets 1.04 1.55

and the GHG emissions looked like this:

Sector GHG emissions
(Lots of other sectors not shown)
Widgets 1040

then the 1040 would be associated with all $1.55 million of production of widgets. You could find the sectoral emissions from just the $1million produced by the ratio (1/1.55)*1040 = 670.

2) On your second point, thats right. Licensees of the data can simply download a list of all of these factors.
