Hello,
I need some help interpreting the results of the EIO LCA for building construction. For the Commercial and Institutional buildings sector, the energy associated with the sector itself is 3.25 TJ of the total 7.72 TJ, or 42%. Is this the "direct energy", i.e., the energy it took to construct the building on site? If so, the percentage is quite a bit higher than the DOE Handbook of Energy Use for Building Construction by Stein et al (1981). In that study (based on 1967 data) the direct energy is about 20%.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Mike
